About the author:
I really enjoy living in Boulder (and reading the Blue Line) because what I see in the common values we seem to share as a community. They're manifested as our great open space, respectful culture on the diversity of ideas & backgrounds, fit & healthy population, and many other ways that initially attracted me to move to Boulder to start my career & pursue my education. More abstractly, I really see the core of these values as an appreciation for life, what it takes to sustain it, and do so responsibly via other living beings.
Of course, this utopian vision is hardly in everything we do, but I am struck by how it is a much more important part of people's conscience than it maybe in other places.
Career-wise, I've been able to appreciate this professionally when I spent a decade working for IBM in various technical, operations, sales, and leadership roles. I now lead my own software startup and see it from an entrepreneur's perspective. But, perhaps the area I'm most connected to these values are in my non-profit work as the Executive Treasurer & Board Member at KGNU Community Radio and as a Member of the Board of Directors at the ACLU of Boulder County.
I also have to admit a selfish appreciation for our open space & beautiful landscape in my free time - I am an avid trail ultra-marathoner and climber to round out the Boulder stereotype I've been painting here :).
