Xcel Energy announced today plans to acquire any future electric utility in Boulder as a wholly-owned subsidiary and will name it Public Service of Boulder (PSB). Said David Eves, Xcel’s CEO, “Once we determined the municipalization effort in Boulder could not be stopped, we considered other options to protect customers in Boulder. Acquiring the newly formed utility seemed the most straightforward. The numbers worked out lower than we expected, making it an easy decision.”
The acquisition will take place once the utility formation is completed. When asked for comment, muni supporters said “Huh?”
