They will talk about the &#8220;Colorado Commits to Kids&#8221; initiative that is expected to be on the November 5 ballot. It will most likely be numbered &#8220;Amendment 66.&#8221; This initiative proposes raising the state income tax from 4.63% to 5% for incomes under $75,000 and 5.9% for incomes over $75,000. It will repeal a section of Amendment 23 that requires funding for public education to increase at the rate of inflation and replaces it with a provision to set aside a minimum of 43% of state income tax collections for public education. The initiative is expected to raise close to $1 Billion. The additional money will be locked in the new State Education Achievement Fund where it can only be used for education reform, rural schools, classroom technology, early childhood education, full-day kindergarten and preschool, gifted and talented students, at-risk students, and English language learners. There will be time for Q and A at the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government.
