{"id":12352,"date":"2013-08-21T12:03:54","date_gmt":"2013-08-21T18:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/?p=12352"},"modified":"2013-08-21T16:46:53","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T22:46:53","slug":"look-to-the-blue-line-for-election-2013-coverage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/?p=12352","title":{"rendered":"Look to the Blue Line for Election 2013 Coverage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/title.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12361\" title=\"title\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/title.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"91\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/title.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/title-300x49.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/title-400x66.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s that time of year again:\u00a0 the municipal election.\u00a0 Candidates will soon be slogging through forums and questionnaires, doorsteps will be littered with fliers and advertising, ballots will be arriving in the mail, and voters will be trying to sort through mountains of information on the candidates and issues.\u00a0 The <em>Blue Line<\/em> is here to make it a little bit easier for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Our upcoming Election 2013 section will have a number of features for voters and candidates.\u00a0 Take a look at what we have to offer and check back often for updates.<\/p>\n<h2>Register to Vote or Update Your Registration<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"Register to Vote\" href=\"http:\/\/registerincolorado.org\/r\/boulderblueline\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"new era gotv\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/new-era-gotv.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"124\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This election will be conducted strictly via mail-in ballot.\u00a0 Is your registration up-to-date?\u00a0 Will your ballot be sent to the correct address?\u00a0 Thanks to the good people at <a title=\"New Era Colorado\" href=\"http:\/\/www.neweracolorado.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Era Colorado<\/a>, you may register to vote or update your registration via a <a title=\"Register to vote\" href=\"http:\/\/registerincolorado.org\/r\/boulderblueline\">link<\/a> on the <em>Blue Line.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Participate in the Community Questionnaire<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/questionnaire-image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"questionnaire image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/questionnaire-image-223x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During the 2011 municipal election, instead of receiving questionnaires from dozens of separate organizations, City Council candidates were able to focus their time and attention on the <em>Blue Line&#8217;s<\/em> Community Questionnaire, a compilation of questions from those same organizations. And, instead of having their answers posted at dozens of separate places, if they were posted at all, they were posted here, online, for everyone to read.<\/p>\n<p title=\"Boulder Weekly\">This year&#8217;s Community Questionnaire will combine questions from even more local organizations than last time, covering a broad range of issues and perspectives. \u00a0So far, participating organizations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boulder Area Trails Coalition<\/li>\n<li>Boulder County Arts Alliance<\/li>\n<li>Boulder County Audubon Association<\/li>\n<li>Boulder County Horse Association<\/li>\n<li>Boulder Mountainbike Alliance<\/li>\n<li>Boulder Shelter for the Homeless<\/li>\n<li>Boulder Weekly<\/li>\n<li>Clean Energy Action<\/li>\n<li>Community Cycles<\/li>\n<li>Community Foundation Serving Boulder County<\/li>\n<li>Crestview West Neighborhood<\/li>\n<li>Ecocycle<\/li>\n<li>El Centro AMISTAD<\/li>\n<li>Friends Interested in Dogs and Open Space (FIDOS)<\/li>\n<li>Friends of Boulder Open Space<\/li>\n<li>Human Services Alliance<\/li>\n<li>Intercambio<\/li>\n<li>Mapleton Hill Neighborhood<\/li>\n<li>Martin Acres Neighborhood Association<\/li>\n<li>New Era Colorado<\/li>\n<li>Newlands Neighborhood<\/li>\n<li>Out Boulder<\/li>\n<li>PLAN-Boulder County<\/li>\n<li>Prairie Dog Coalition of the Humane Society of the United States<\/li>\n<li>Sierra Club<\/li>\n<li>Southeast Boulder Neighborhood Association<\/li>\n<li>University Hill Neighborhood Association<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your organization is not listed here, and you were planning on sending a questionnaire to the candidates, consider <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/submit-an-article\/\">sending it<\/a> to the <em>Blue Line<\/em> instead. We will incorporate it into the Community Questionnaire. The deadline for submissions is coming up quickly. All questions for candidates must be submitted to the <em>Blue Line<\/em> by the end of the day on Monday, August 26.<\/p>\n<h2>Compare Candidate Responses<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/select-repsonses.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"select repsonses\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/select-repsonses.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Voters and organizations preparing endorsements will be able to read and compare candidates\u2019 responses to the Community Questionnaire via the <em>Blue Line<\/em>. \u00a0Instead of scanning through pages and pages of multiple pdfs, you will be able to select a topic of your choice and find out where a particular candidate, or all the candidates, stand on that topic.\u00a0 Look for candidate responses to be posted here in mid-September.<\/p>\n<h2>Read Candidate Interviews and Campaign Coverage<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/iStock_000011115905XSmall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Interviewing with Microphone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/iStock_000011115905XSmall-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Watch the <em>Blue Line<\/em> for exclusive interviews and articles with City Council candidates. Tentative arrangements have been made for students in Instructor Jeff Browne&#8217;s upper level <em>CU News Corps<\/em> course at CU-Boulder to interview the candidates and produce profiles for the <em>Blue Line<\/em>. Look for articles from these budding journalists.<\/p>\n<div id=\"stcpDiv\">\n<p>The <em>Blue Line<\/em> is very lucky to have scientist, writer, analyst, photographer and all-around engaged citizen <a title=\"zane selvans archive\" href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/author\/zane-selvans\/\">Zane Selvans<\/a> volunteer to cover the three PLAN-Boulder County candidate forums for the <em>Blue Line<\/em>. His excellent coverage of the 2011 forums and debates was very much appreciated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Support the Blue Line<\/h1>\n<p>The <em>Blue Line<\/em> has topped 56,000 unique visitors, with over 800 articles posted by about 150 authors.\u00a0 We\u2019re pretty proud of how far we\u2019ve come as an all-volunteer, non-profit organization.\u00a0 We try to offer fresh, relevant content as often as possible, and we\u2019re very excited about the election coverage we\u2019ll be providing.\u00a0 We could do even more with your support.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>How can you help?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Become a community author<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Share your expertise \u2013 the feedback we receive is that our readers enjoy articles that help them understand issues that are otherwise not covered in sufficient depth in other media.\u00a0 If you have a particular area of expertise and can offer information or perspectives that fill a gap, please <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/..\/..\/submit-an-article\/\">send it<\/a> to the <em>Blue Line<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Be a reporter \u2013 we have a couple of folks who attend public meetings and write them up for the <em>Blue Line.\u00a0 <\/em>This is a huge community service and very welcome content.\u00a0 Please consider taking notes and writing up the next public meeting you attend.<\/li>\n<li>Issue your Call to Action \u2013 community members often have a particular issue that is coming up before City Council, the County Commissioners or other agency and they want to raise awareness and turn out speakers.\u00a0 Write it up and <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/..\/..\/submit-an-article\/\">send it in<\/a>!\u00a0 No <a href=\"http:\/\/politicaldictionary.com\/words\/astroturf\/\">astroturf<\/a>, please.<\/li>\n<li>Announce your cultural or neighborhood event \u2013 write it up and <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/..\/..\/submit-an-article\/\">send it in<\/a>.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll publish it under your byline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Support the community authors<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Comment on articles \u2013 if you read something that you want to respond to, please comment.\u00a0 Our authors want to know
