{"id":11043,"date":"2012-08-17T13:24:02","date_gmt":"2012-08-17T19:24:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/?p=11043"},"modified":"2012-08-17T13:25:38","modified_gmt":"2012-08-17T19:25:38","slug":"diy-solar-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/?p=11043","title":{"rendered":"DIY Solar Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_11047\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/solar-oven.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11047\" class=\" wp-image-11047 \" title=\"solar oven\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/solar-oven.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11047\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deborah&#8217;s solar oven, made of cardboard, aluminum foil, and plexiglass reaches 350 degrees.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Newlands\/Greenlands Low Carbon Group is focusing more on <em>doing<\/em> and less on <em>discussing<\/em> how to lower our carbon footprint. \u00a0We made a list of things that make us happy such as\u2026 eating local food, gardening, riding bikes, walking in the neighborhood, using public transportation when we can, music and friends. \u00a0We are planning monthly get-togethers around these low carbon activities.<\/p>\n<p>For our August gathering, some of us decided to build a solar project that could help us enjoy our local garden produce and extend the season. \u00a0Deborah Yin built a solar oven and she plans to try baking fruit crisps and cookies while not having to turn on the inside oven and heat up the house.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11049\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fruit-dryer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11049\" class=\"wp-image-11049 \" title=\"fruit dryer\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fruit-dryer.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11049\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Larry and Kay&#8217;s, made of cardboard, clear plastic, wood, and window screen, is ready to dry their apple harvest.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Larry and Kay Bingham like to dry their apples, excess tomatoes, and other local fruits and veggies for use beyond the season. \u00a0Larry built a solar dehydrator out of cardboard. \u00a0 We all met at the home of Vernita and Blake Cannon for a yummy potluck of local food and shared our projects.<\/p>\n<p>Both projects are being tested this week.
