{"id":4148,"date":"2010-11-23T20:15:12","date_gmt":"2010-11-24T03:15:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/?p=4148"},"modified":"2010-11-23T20:31:10","modified_gmt":"2010-11-24T03:31:10","slug":"printing-turkeys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/?p=4148","title":{"rendered":"Printing Turkeys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/postcard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4149\" title=\"postcard\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/postcard.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/postcard.jpg 450w, http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/postcard-300x184.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.boulderblueline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/postcard-400x246.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m just wondering why the editor of our local newspaper would print such a turkey: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailycamera.com\/ci_16684171\">On Thanksgiving, Tell Activists To Stuff It<\/a>&#8221; by David Martosko, as a Guest Opinion this holiday season?<\/p>\n<p>What festive cheer to attack PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, with a piece of poopoganda from\u00a0CCF,\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.consumerfreedom.com\/\">Center for Consumer Freedom<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>CCF is headquartered in the offices of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Center_for_Consumer_Freedom\">Richard Berman<\/a>, a\u00a0lobbyist\u00a0for the tobacco, restaurant, alcohol and various other industries.\u00a0Mr. Berman set up CCF and a number of other tax exempt groups, which all seem to support messages that dovetail nicely with his industry lobbying.\u00a0 However, according to\u00a0David Martosko, who works for CCF, in a May of 2006 interview with\u00a0ABC News, this is simply &#8220;the way things tend to be done&#8221; in Washington.\u00a0Furthermore, he has no idea nor does he want to know who funds CCF: &#8220;I don&#8217;t know the firms that send the Center for Consumer Freedom money.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to know. It&#8217;s not my business to know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In January of 2006, Martosko was asked, in the context of CCF&#8217;s campaign dismissing concerns about mercury concentration in seafood, whether they received funding from the seafood industry, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know exactly which companies in the food sector support us.\u00a0You know, it&#8217;s not my job to know. I really don&#8217;t pay attention.\u00a0I do know that the vast majority of our, say, institutional funding, comes from the food sector. Beyond that, I just don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What should you know about David Martosko during this holiday, as you drive home from your Thanksgiving dinner with extended family?<\/p>\n<p>He works for the alcohol industry, as well.
